MORE life-saving defibrillators are set to be installed in Northwich.

Chris Shaw, town clerk at Northwich Town Council, told Monday’s meeting that the council is working Mid Cheshire Community Rail Partnership on the installation of defibrillators at Northwich and Greenbank stations.

A new defibrillator is also set to be installed in Manchester Road, while the town council is also keen to find a home for a new device at Winnington Urban Village.

“It is proving difficult to identify a suitable building,” Mr Shaw added.

“If there are any businesses in the urban village that want an AED [automated external defibrillator], it would be no cost to them whatsoever, fully installed.”

Meanwhile, the council is also looking to move its existing defibrillators to outdoor locations, so they can be more accessible to the public.

Cllr Andrew Cooper told the Guardian last month that defibrillators are already helping to save lives in Northwich.

He said: "Twelve young people a week lose their lives because of cardiac arrest.

"Using a defibrillator immediately in cardiac arrest increases a person's chance of survival from six per cent to 74 per cent.

"The defibrillators are already being used from time to time – the town centre ones have been used a few times.

"It's great that these are available for people to use at their time of need."

The defibrillators can be used by calling 999 to get a code from North West Ambulance Service.

Existing locations include Old Hall Road in Leftwich, Iron Bridge in Castle, Pete’s Chippy in Winnington, near Natwest in town and in Meadow Street.
