MORE than 220 new Covid-19 cases have been confirmed across Cheshire East and West as infection rates continue to fall across the two boroughs.

Latest figures from Public Health England cover the 24-hour period up to 9am today, February 1.

In that time, there were 102 new coronavirus cases in Cheshire East and 122 in Cheshire West, a total of 224.

That takes the overall number of coronavirus cases in Cheshire East to 17,925 since the pandemic began, while Cheshire West’s figure is 18,807.

Today’s figure is similar to the total number announced yesterday of 228 and the 219 confirmed on Saturday.

However, the seven-day infection rate for both boroughs has declined again today.

Cheshire East’s infection rate is at its lowest point since December 20, while Cheshire West’s is at its lowest rate since Boxing Day.

Across Cheshire East, the infection rate is now 199.4 per 100,000 people, following 766 cases in the seven days up to January 27.

That is lower than yesterday’s figure of 206.7 per 100,000 people, 294.7 per 100,000 people one week earlier and 334 per 100,000 people a fortnight ago.

Meanwhile in Cheshire West, the infection rate is now 293.8 per 100,000 people, following 1,008 cases in the seven days up to January 27.

That is lower than yesterday’s figure of 299.6 per 100,000 people, 376.9 per 100,000 people one week earlier and 467.3 per 100,000 people a fortnight ago.
