RESIDENTS were evacuated from a block of flats in Weaverham overnight as fire crews checked for a possible gas leak.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service was called shortly before midnight following reports of a smell of gas in an apartment.

Three fire engines – two from Northwich and one from Lymm – attended the incident, in Farm Road, along with gas engineers in the early hours of this morning, February 1.

Residents were evacuated from the flat where the smell had been reported, along with neighbouring apartments, as crews investigated the area.

Firefighters used gas detection equipment to make sure residents were safe, while the gas engineers isolated the supply from the outside mains.
