MORE than 300 Covid cases have been confirmed across Cheshire East and West in the latest daily figures.

New data from Public Health England covers the 24-hour period up to 9am today, January 29, with a bump in the daily numbers.

In Cheshire West, there were 174 new cases confirmed in that time, taking the borough’s total to 18,450 since the start of the pandemic.

In Cheshire East, there were 138 new cases, taking the borough’s total to 17,611 since the pandemic began.

It means there were 312 new Covid cases announced across the area in total, more than the 268 confirmed yesterday and the second-highest figure this week, after 389 on Wednesday.

However, the seven-day infection rate continues to fall across both boroughs.

In Cheshire West, the rate now stands at 327 per 100,000 people, following 1,122 cases in the seven days up to January 24 – compared to 345.4 in yesterday’s figures, 408.7 one week ago and 506.3 a fortnight earlier.

In Cheshire East, the rate is now 232.7 per 100,000 people, following 894 cases in the seven days up to January 24 – compare to 241.8 in yesterday’s figures, 320.7 one week ago and 386.6 a fortnight earlier.
