THE M6 will be fully closed again this weekend.

Roadworks will see a second full weekend closure of the motorway in a row at junction 19 for Knutsford.

This will be extended to junction 20 at Lymm and junction 18 for Holmes Chapel overnight tonight, Friday, and Sunday.

A Highways England spokesman said: “Our second weekend closure to lift our steel beams into position is going ahead this weekend, January 29 to February 1.

“We’ll close the M6 in both directions within junction 19.

“A two-lane up-and-over diversion will be in place at the junction – we’ll also be closing the A556 in both directions to allow diverted traffic to flow freely.

“On January 29 and 31, we’ll also need to close the M6 carriageway in both directions between junctions 18 and 20 from 9pm to 6am.

“Please plan your journey in advance and use alternative routes if possible.

“Expect long delays.”

The M6 was also fully closed last weekend as a £43million upgrade of this section of the motorway marked a ‘significant milestone’.

A new bridge is currently being installed across the route, with 36 huge 90 tonne beams being lifted into place during the closures.

It is expected that the scheme, which hopes to improve the flow of traffic between the M6 and the A556 and reduce congestion around the junction, will be completed in the summer.
