A NORTHWICH mum says she is 'overwhelmed' by the support of people in the town after launching a scheme to help children who are being home schooled.

Laura McGarty, a mother of two, said she felt moved to try and help children and families who might be struggling to provide all the equipment they require, such as laptops and stationery.

Since launching the scheme on January 11, Laura has been able to make 74 resource packs for children in the Winnington and Castle area, with 11 devices being donated, with the promise of more on the way.

She said: "We have had an amazing £130 donated via our Just Giving page.

"So far we have created 74 resource packs, which are ready to go.

"We have also been contacted by Victoria Road Primary School to ask us if we would help support them, so we have decided to branch out and hopefully help more families than originally anticipated.

"I am truly amazed at how much support this has gained."

With home schooling likely to be in place until at least the middle of February, the issues of ensuring all children have access to the equipment they need is a hugely important one.

"My dining room is slowly getting buried under all the wonderful donations," added Laura.

"I think it is important to let people know we are branching out and hoping to help other schools in the area.

"We are using the hashtag #HomeSchoolingHelpNorthwich in all our Facebook posts so that all the information and updates are easier to find in one place.

"We have also been contacted by a local business, Eve's Magical Teepee's, who have very kindly donated a full teepee party as a prize.

"Anyone who has donated a device, stationery, or via the Just Giving page will be entered, with the draw being made live on Facebook on March 1."

If you would like donate to the Home Schooling Help Campaign, a JustGiving page has been set up where people can either make a donation for supplies to be purchased or you contact the group further.
