As we have kissed 2020 goodbye and we are perhaps thinking of or plans for 2021, I have been reflecting and researching on what may happen for the beauty industry, and the likely trends that may be coming our way over the coming months.

It would be great to see the beauty industry promote sustainability in terms of environmentally friendly products and packaging.

Many companies could do so much better, although I do know that companies such as Caudalie are very dedicated to some of the environmental issues and have already committed to planting trees and looking at packaging that respects environmental issues and producing marine friendly sunscreens.

Some beauty companies will be more age inclusive with their branding, marketing, and products.  I have heard that many companies are going for a gender-neutral approach so that branding and products appeal to all.

Looking at some of the fashion trends in terms of skincare and makeup, may give us a much-needed boost, and get us all in to making an effort when we are able to mix again.
It is a good time to explore trends and the looks you may want to create as spring time approaches ready for the summer.

What will be Trending for 2021

  • While the wearing of face coverings are mandatory in public spaces, there will be an array of trendy styles to choose from, a nice way to feel good and confident in wearing one, it will also help the more reluctant to feel more comfortable with them. Choose yours from the array of creative designs now available. Just make sure that it fits well and covers your nose and mouth properly so that you don’t have to keep fiddling with it.
  • As wearing face masks have become apart of our every day lives, I think that defining the eyes will still be very on trend, and natural skin and a no makeup look will be relevant. Not always easy to achieve, unless you literally don’t wear any makeup, so in the coming weeks I will discuss how to achieve a natural look, while looking glowing and healthy.
  • Strong eyebrows that are well sculpted and defined may be the eyebrow must have, I think skinny brows will still be out.
  • Bold colours will be on the catwalk for spring and summer and colourful eye makeup, so if you like to stay on trend it is time to get out your bright eyeshadow pallets and start practicing. I am sure there will be many online tutorials to help you. If you are not going for a complete au naturel look then bold lips will also be trending.
  • A great choice in hand hygiene products. Hand sanitiser will be here to stay, so more luxury products which are gentler and caring to our skins will be available.
  • An increase in home gadget sales, with beauty salons and skin clinics closed many more people will be turning to DIY skin gadgets. They could help us to keep our skin happy in between our salon treatments.
  • An increase in non-surgical skin procedures and facial appointments will increase when salons are open, as people are becoming more facially aware following all the zoom meetings and online chats.
  • Advanced products and treatments for the scalp may be big for 2021 as people are concerned about healthy hair growth or thinning.
  • Bangs for the hair will also be trending and wellbeing products may also be at the forefront, with mental health and stress being in the spotlight, during this pandemic, products to destress and relax will be marketed.
  • Body products may also be big this year, ingredients to keep crepe and sagging skin at bay.

Northwich Guardian:

Look on the bright side

In terms of skin care people will be looking for multipurpose skin care with a less is more approach.  Many people will be far more interested in the ingredients that go in to our beauty products and will be looking for clean and natural ingredients. Niacinamide will be a sought-after ingredient, as will probiotic skin care.

As we are all on our screens a lot more, we may see more blue light protection in our skincare to try to help combat its damaging effects to our skin. This is something we may have forgotten about, so it is a good idea to limit your screen time wherever possible and look out for products that protect us from this.

Another thing many of us could take note of this year, is how we dispose of our used beauty products and beauty product packaging. GARNIER do a Personal Care and Beauty Recycling Programme, just go online if you can see how it can help you. The waste packaging is then separated, cleaned, and extruded into plastic pellets to make new recycled products.

Over the coming weeks I will be talking about eco beauty and looking at ways to be more environmentally friendly in our practices.

I hope by the time we near to spring and summer, things will look brighter and we will all want to embrace some fresh changes to cheer ourselves up. Nice bright colours may be a good antidote to any dull grey days and lift our moods.
