OUTDOOR activity groups could soon benefit from a re-developed Pettypool Centre in Cuddington — with works aiming to make social distancing easier.

The site, owned by the Girlguiding UK, has reached the end of its life and needs a new sleeping accommodation to be practical again.

A planning application submitted to Cheshire West and Chester Council seeks permission to replace the existing ranger den, and undertake ‘minor internal remodelling works and new external canopy to the existing residential lodge’.

In a design and access statement to planners, architects Walker Simpson write: “The new single storey Ranger Den will provide a small kitchen and activity room as per the existing building in addition to sleeping accommodation with an accessible W.C. and Accessible Shower.

“The design will also include for an covered external deck to the rear of the building.”

“Minor internal remodelling works to the existing Residential Lodge will enable the client to make better use of the existing internal spaces.

“In anticipation of an increased footfall, the proposed external canopy wrap-around will provide a covered area for visitors to queue outside the building whilst maintaining social distancing.”

In order to maintain one visual identity throughout the development, both the new ranger den and residential lodge will be clad in metal sheets featuring ‘circular perforation pattern’.
