MORE than 450 new coronavirus cases have been confirmed across Cheshire East and West in the latest figures from Public Health England.

In the 24 hours up to 9am today, January 12, there were 270 new cases in Cheshire West and 188 in Cheshire East – a total of 458, up from 420 in yesterday’s figures.

It means there have now been 15,411 Covid cases in Cheshire West and 15,091 in Cheshire East since the pandemic began.

Meanwhile, both boroughs have seen their infection rates fall for the third day in a row, having hit an alarming peak on Saturday.

On that day, Cheshire West’s infection rate stood at 624.7 per 100,000 people following 2,143 cases in the seven days up to January 4.

That figure has now fallen to 553.3 per 100,000 people following 1,899 cases in the seven days up to January 7.

However, the figure remains higher than it was one week earlier at 481 per 100,000 people, while a fortnight ago it was 272.2 per 100,000 people.

It is a similar pattern in Cheshire East, where the rate now stands at 438.9 per 100,000 people, following 1,686 cases in the seven days up to January 4.

That figure also hit a peak on Saturday at 496.4 per 100,000 people, but remains higher than 411 per 100,000 people from one week ago and 292.9 per 100,000 people two weeks ago.
