A MAIN route off junction 16 of the M6 remains closed following a serious collision involving two HGV's.

Highways England said the closure relates to southbound traffic heading on the A500 to Talke on the A34, with emergency crews at the scene.

Recovery is taking place, with Staffordshire Police and fire services joining colleagues from the Central Motorway Police Group.

The road has been closed since around 1.30pm on Monday afternoon, and remains closed more than two hours later.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service tweeted: "We are currently in attendance at a multi-vehicle collision on the A500.

"As a result the south bound section between Audley and the M6 has been closed.

"Motorists are asked to avoid the area."

Highways England posted two images from the scene.
