AN angling superstore in Middlewich can once again serve customers after the lockdown ban on fishing was lifted today.

Dave's is resuming its click and door collection service in its store in Lewin Street from 9am to 1pm tomorrow.

Customers can message staff and pick up items during these times every day.

It follows the Government's u-turn which had suspended fishing during the third national lockdown.

Campaigners lobbied MPs to change their mind and include angling as a form of exercise.

The Government is now allowing anglers to form once a day but can only fish within their own local area.

Jamie Cook, chief executive of the Angling Trust, said: "We have promoted the huge benefits of fishing on individual health and wellbeing and have been able to present a case to which the Government has listened."

A DEFRA spokesman said: “Cabinet Office have now officially confirmed that angling and fishing, including sea fishing off private boats, water sports, can be considered exercise and are hence permitted.”

A spokesman for Sports England said: "We have worked extremely hard to reach this position and we as anglers have a duty to abide by the strict conditions under which fishing is once again permitted."

A spokesman for Dave's said: "Great work by the Angling Trust. After this amazing u-turn we must show our gratitude and stay safe."
