Arley Hall and Gardens

A firm favourite with TV and film crews, the beautiful Arley Hall has been home to many a film and TV production over the years. Most famously, it was transformed into Tom Shelby’s glamorous home in the third series of Peaky Blinders, but it’s also been featured in Our Zoo, Coronation Street, Cold Feet, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, and Disney’s Evermoor.

Great Budworth village

Peter Harness' adaptation of H.G. Wells' classic sci-fi novel hit the small screen on BBC One in 2019. For five weeks the production team behind the sci-fi spectacular ‘invaded’ the village which provided the backdrop for some dramatic alien attack scenes in the three-part adaptation.

Its quaint and quintessentially English streets also featured in the popular historic drama Our Zoo.

Lyme Park 

The park and its hall have been used in several films and television programmes. The exterior of the hall was used as Pemberley, the seat of Mr Darcy, in the 1995 BBC adaptation of Jane Austen's novel Pride and Prejudice and the setting for the famous scene where Colin Firth set hearts a-flutter as he emerged from the lake.

In 2013 was also used to film the BAFTA-nominated, The Village, which starred John Simm and Maxine Peake, and it even features as a location in the Red Dwarf episode Timeslides.

Quarry Bank Mill

This historic mill on the Styal Estate provided the setting for Channel 4 drama The Mill in 2013.

Starring Kerrie Hayes and Matthew McNulty as Esther Price and Daniel Bate, the series depicts a changing Britain in the industrial revolution and highlights the ongoing fight for workers’ rights and the troubles of the Greg family who owned the Mill before donating it to the National Trust in 1939.

Walton Hall and Gardens, Warrington

Another National Trust site, the exterior of Walton Hall was used in the filming of 2014 BBC television drama, Our Zoo. Based on the true story of how George Mottershead set up Chester Zoo at Upton in the 1930s, the series visits various locations around Cheshire, including Great Budworth and Arley Hall.
