FOLLOWING the news this morning that a coronavirus vaccine has been approved for use in the UK, there will be two questions on everyone’s minds.

Those questions are – who will receive the vaccine first and where am I in the queue?

A list of who will receive the vaccine first is set to be confirmed later today, but a provisional list has already been drawn up.

The Covid-19 vaccine from Pfizer and BioNTech is set to be rolled out from next week.

The vaccine has been shown in studies to be 95 per cent effective and works in all age groups. The UK is the first country in the world to approve it for widespread use.

Around 10million doses should be available soon, with the first 800,000 arriving in the coming days.

The provision priority vaccination list has been drawn up by the Government's Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI).

This is an independent expert advisory committee that advises UK health departments on immunisation, making recommendations on vaccination schedules and safety.

In its provisional guidance vaccine guidance published this month, the JCVI says vaccine priority is in the following order:

  1. Residents and staff in a care home for older adults
  2. All those 80 years of age and over/Health and social care workers
  3. All those 75 years of age and over
  4. All those 70 years of age and over/Clinically extremely vulnerable individuals (not including pregnant women and those under 18 years of age)
  5. All those 65 years of age and over
  6. Adults aged 18 to 65 years in an at-risk group
  7. All those 60 years of age and over
  8. All those 55 years of age and over
  9. All those 50 years of age and over
