CHILDREN were given the chance to abandon pens and exercise books, relax and chill out.

Instead of lessons, pupils and teachers at St Mary's Catholic Primary School in Middlewich enjoyed a wellbeing day of relaxation.

It was a chance for everyone to have a break from catch up and recovery activities.

The Parent Teacher Association secured a huge amount of doughnuts from Jack's supermarket, which were gratefully eaten by the children.

Pupils enjoyed various different activities ranging from exploring their feelings and emotions to relaxing with arts and crafts.

Children were able to spend time in the nurture room and chill out with mindfulness colouring books.

Headteacher Janet McKinlay said: "Having the opportunity to take some time to relax and just be yourself with no timetable to follow and tasks to complete is really important at this point.

"It was great to press the pause button. Our children are very resilient but it is impossible to measure the impact of the pandemic on pupils’ emotional health and wellbeing. The staff also appreciated the chance to go off timetable and be creative with their class."
