BOTH Cheshire East and West have seen a slight jump in their 24-hour Covid case numbers today, November 25.

The two boroughs had seen much lower figures on Monday and Tuesday compared to recent weeks, following a decline in the number of new coronavirus cases in the third week of lockdown.

But the latest figures from Public Health England, which cover the 24-hour period up to 9am today), represent a slight increase.

In Cheshire West, including Northwich and Winsford, 60 new Covid cases were confirmed during that time.

That is slightly higher than the 51 cases announced yesterday, but still much lower than the 118 announced last Wednesday.

In Cheshire East, including Knutsford and Middlewich, 83 new coronavirus cases have been confirmed in the latest 24-hour figures.

That is an increase from the 49 announced yesterday, but fewer than the 99 announced last Wednesday.

It means 143 new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in the two boroughs today, taking Cheshire East’s total to 8,620 and Cheshire West’s to 8,722.

Delays in the way infection rates are published by Public Health England mean the rise in case numbers will only be seen in the seven-day rate after this weekend.

In the latest seven-day infection rates published today, which cover the week up to November 20, both Cheshire East and West continue to see numbers fall.

In Cheshire West, the rate is now 208.1 per 100,000 people, following 714 cases during that week.

The rate has fallen for six days running and is much lower now than the figure of 306.9 per 100,000 people one week earlier.

Meanwhile in Cheshire East, the rate now stands at 169.7 per 100,000 people following 652 cases in the week up to November 20.

That compares to a figure of 239.7 per 100,000 people one week earlier, and it is the third day running that the rate has fallen.
