HOMES were evacuated last night (Friday) as firefighters tackled a shed fire in Northwich.

Two fire engines from Northwich Fire Station were called out to Royle Street just before 11pm to reports of a shed fire.

On arrival the crews found a shed well alight and, wearing breathing apparatus, used hose reel jets to tackle the fire.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "Neighbouring houses were evacuated during the incident, and the crews stayed at the scene to damp down, using a thermal imaging camera to make sure the fire was fully extinguished.

"Once the fire was out, the firefighters fitted smoke alarms to all affected houses."
