PLANS to remember those who gave their lives during times of war have been drastically cut back this year due to Covid-19.

With the second lockdown coming into effect on November 5, many local communities in the area have had to cancel plans for Remembrance Services and public wreath laying ceremonies.

In Barnton, the parish council said plans for its usual Remembrance event had been cancelled because of the current restrictions imposed by the UK government due to the pandemic.

The council will instead lay wreaths in memory of the fallen at a private ceremony on November 8.

A spokesman said: "It is with great regret that we are unable to invite you to join us this year."

Over at St Wilfrid's in Davenham, the usual Remembrance Service has been cancelled, however Rob Iveson, the Rector of the Parish has kindly sent parishioners a link to a specially recorded Remembrance service.

The parish church, which also serves Leftwich, Kingsmead and Gadbrook, said this is a very special Remembrance weekend.

Rob said: "We give thanks to all who make a difference - in times of conflict fighting for our freedom, and those ‘heroes’ of today stepping up to make a difference - not least those battling against Covid-19.

"We pay tribute with grateful hearts.

"With love, prayers and well-wishing for you in these difficult times."
