TWO lanes on part of the A556 are set to close for more than a fortnight so repairs can take place on Hartford's 'Blue Bridge'.

Hartford Bridge, as it is formally known as, has suffered from damage after being hit by a vehicle in January 2019.

Cheshire West and Chester Council believes the bridge was hit by a lorry, but the driver responsible was never found.

Investigations took place to assess the damage following the incident, and while the bridge was found to be structurally safe, there was some damage to two of its beams.

With CWAC left to pick up the bill for the repairs, funding was secured earlier this year.

Essential repairs will begin on Friday, November 6, and are due to last until Sunday, November 29.

Both lanes on the westbound side will be closed while the work takes place.

A contraflow system will be in place on the eastbound side of the road, meaning one lane of traffic will be open in each direction.

The speed limit will be temporarily reduced to 30mph through the contraflow to ensure public and workforce safety.

Cllr Karen Shore, cabinet member for environment, said: "The closure is required in order to replace the steelwork that was damaged in the incident.

"I’d like to thank motorists for their patience while we safeguard this important route."
