TATTON MP Esther McVey has called Rudheath Senior Academy's transformation 'phenomenal' following a tour of the £3m rebuild.

The recently completed first phase of the project features six new classrooms, brimming with state-of-the-art IT equipment, a new entrance, a staff hub, new office space and revamped gardens.

It was the MP's first visit to the school since she came to inspect the damage after the devastating fire in 2018, which gutted nearly half of the buildings.

She said: "It's an absolute pleasure to be back at Rudheath Senior Academy.

"I came here a while back and the school had just been burned down.

"What a transformation; new classrooms, the green open space and the facilities in the classrooms are unbelievable.

"The children are delighted to be here, it's quite a transformation from what was really just a shell.

"I know there are little pockets of work still to do but the change is phenomenal and it is an absolute pleasure to be back here in this school."

The next phase of the redevelopment is expected to be completed early next year and is designed to ensure Rudheath emerges from the fire bigger and better than ever.

Chester-based North West Academies Trust (NWAT), which took over the academy’s management in November 2018, has a record of transforming schools and is one of the highest performing trusts in the country.

CEO Steve Docking said: "A lot of work was done during lockdown which made getting back to school a really positive experience for the children.

"We are seeing an enthusiasm for learning like never before, vast improvements in all areas have made at Rudheath unrecognisable from what it was just a few years ago."
