MIDDLEWICH bonfire night celebrations and fireworks have been cancelled 'with a heavy heart'.

The annual event at Middlewich Cricket Club has been a family favourite for more than 20 years.

Speaking on behalf of the cricket club committee, club chairman Dave Parry said: "After a great deal of consideration it is with regret that Middlewich Cricket Club announces the cancellation of the 2020 Middlewich bonfire night celebrations and fireworks.

“We have considered a number of measures to save this year’s events but they have not proven to be viable in the current pandemic conditions.

“It is with a heavy heart that we have come to this decision. We look forward to welcoming you all to the 2021 event. The planning begins now to make that event bigger and better than ever.”

The club has announced the cancellation now to give residents the opportunity to make alternative private arrangements.

Dave added: "We thank you for your support over the last 20 years and look forward to inviting you again to our club for both the summer and bonfire events next year, 2021."
