WITTON Albion head into a rearranged home game on Saturday on the back of a mixed week of results.

Carl Macauley’s men host Basford United at Wincham Park on Saturday, 3pm, in a Northern Premier League game brought forward from November on the back of neither side having further FA Cup commitments this weekend.

They go into the contest against a side who have not lost on the road yet this season hot on the heels of a 2-1 league loss at Mickleover Sports on Tuesday.

Albion, without the services of the industrious Danny McKenna through suspension after his sending off lhe previous Tuesday at Whitley Bay, trailed 1-0 until the 87th minute when the hosts doubled the advantage on the way to their first win of the new season.

Billy Smart’s strike two minutes later gave Witton renewed hope in the closing moments but it proved to be just a consolation in the end.

Witton did bag their first win of the campaign at the weekend though, Scott Bakkor netting a hat-trick in a 4-1 success at Radcliffe FC.

Will Jones bagged the fourth goal late on after the hosts had pulled a goal back.
