A LUCKY lottery player has scooped £5,000 in St Luke’s new rollover draw.

Jean Bowen is saving the windfall to celebrate her golden wedding.

Jean, from Weaverham, said: “This is amazing. Next year, my husband and I celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary so we can now look forward to doing something very special.

"My granddaughter has her 18th birthday in November too so she might get an extra treat plus the money will certainly take the strain and worry out of Christmas.’’

Jean, who works at Four Oaks Nursery near Holmes Chapel, has been playing the weekly lottery since 2016, and says she 'doesn't notice' the £1 going out of her bank account every week.

Andy Bailey, from St Luke’s Hospice, presents lottery rollover winner Jean Bowen with £5,000

The lottery has grown to become St Luke’s biggest single source of income and has raised more than £11 million since its launch. It costs just £1 a week to play, the same as when it was set up more than 25 years ago.

St Luke’s lottery manager Nicola Mainwaring said: “We are delighted to finally have our first lottery rollover winner.

"We introduced the new draw earlier this year with the intention of giving our existing players like Jean something fresh and exciting as well as hopefully attracting some new players.

"The rollover starts accumulating again from this week. Everyone who enters has an equal chance of winning a prize but you’ve got to be in it to win it."

The new draw offers players the chance to win 35 cash prizes each week, including a £1,000 guaranteed jackpot and a £200 rollover. If the rollover prize is not won it will rollover and accumulate each week.

It could be won at any time but if it gets up to £5,000 there will be a guaranteed winner like lucky Jean.

Every penny raised in profit from the lottery supports local people being cared for by St Luke’s so by taking part you’ll be supporting your local Hospice while being in with the chance of winning fantastic prizes each week.
