Tranmere boss Mike Jackson is delighted to have made two significant player acquisitions this week but insists that he won't be rushing either of them into action.

The Rovers manager was speaking via a Zoom video conference call to the media, ahead of the Birkenhead club's first home league match of the season against Cheltenham Town, which takes place on Saturday at Prenton Park.

Fans, who will still only be able to follow the action either by utilising an iFollow match pass or via the Globe's live match blog, will be eager to see their new stars in action, but 46-year-old Jackson suggested that supporters may need to be patient.

Speaking first about new forward Kaiyne Woolery, he said: "We tried to sign him a few times over the last couple of seasons, but it hasn't worked out for one reason or another.

"He's very quick and direct. He's got a good pedigree in that he's won promotions before. It's always good to have player in your side that knows what it's like to be in a promotion team and our aim this season is to be going for those sort of places.

"We want to make sure that we get him up to speed, because at the moment he's probably two or three weeks away from actually getting some game time, because the boy hasn't trained (properly). He's trained at home.

"We've got to be very careful with him because he's a powerful boy and if we try and get too much too soon from him, we could get him injured.

"But we want to get him ready and involved with the group as soon as we can."

Wirral Globe: New loan signing Liam FeeneyNew loan signing Liam Feeney

Earlier today, Tranmere announced the capture of midfielder Liam Feeney on a season long loan from Blackpool, but again he is another player who may not yet be ready to hit the ground running.

Jackson said: "Liam gives us something a little bit different. You only have to look at his assists record for last year. He'll give us that little bit of calmness and experience in the final third.

"Sometimes in that final third it can be too rushed. He'll give us quality on his deliveries into the box, because you need to get that ball in there to make people defend.

"He's only just joined us, so we'll need a chance to get him up to speed, but strikers thrive off service and that's what we'll be working towards this week."

Keen as he will be to bolster his attacking options as soon as possible, Jackson will be without two key players for the next couple of weeks.

Corey Blackett-Taylor remains side-lined with a hamstring injury and is still a few weeks away from a return to training.

Striker Morgan Ferrier also has a hamstring complaint and is working with Rovers' fitness coaches to get back as quick as possible.

Following an announcement at short notice by the EFL yesterday that up 1,000 supporters will be allowed into EFL stadiums this weekend as part of a pilot programme, Tranmere were not able to put the necessary safety measure in place in time for this weekend, but Jackson made it clear that he cannot wait for their return, adding: "That would be brilliant. Honestly.

"We've been speaking about it all the time. To have the fans back in the ground and to have that connection with them - we've missed them a lot."
