A SUPERMARKET is sharing £1,000 with four community groups.

Jack's in Middlewich is donating £250 to four charities that successfully applied for funding through Jack's Supports Scheme.

The Wheelock Street store launched the project to donate proceeds from sale of carrier bags to local good causes.

The four winning charities include Cosy Cats Rescue, Oakmere Cricket Club, Bees in Our Community and South West Cheshire District Scout Council.

Hazel Cook, from Cosy Cats Rescue in Northwich, said: “We applied for the grant as we need to buy a few items to use at the rescue in order to enable us to continue our work of rescuing many animals in need.”

Cosy Cats Rescue is a small, non-profit making organisation run entirely by volunteers to help abandoned, stray and ill-treated animals.

Daniel Faulkner, from Oakmere Cricket Club, said: “We applied for funding to provide more expert coaching to our youngest age groups, five to 11-yeareolds.

"This will fund two of our senior members to go on ECB coaching courses over the winter, and if we are successful overall we intend to use the extra money to fund more coaching for our Minis and Allstars programmes in 2021.”

Karl Colyer, from Bees in Our Community in Northwich, said: “I applied for funding as I am helping honeybees in Cheshire by hand-making hives, breeding bees and locating colonies on farmland, company premises, stately homes and people’s gardens around the county."

Bees in Our Community receives £250 from Jack's in Middlewich

Darren Preston, store manager of Jack’s Middlewich, said: “The Jack’s Supports scheme has been running for a while now and it’s wonderful to see how many local organisations and groups have benefited from the donation.

"It’s important to everyone at Jack’s to be able to give back to the local community who have always been so kind to us. We strongly recommended anyone who’s considering applying to definitely get involved, it’s amazing and anyone can win.”

The next round of Jack’s Supports Scheme will return to the previous format in which customers vote for one organisation to win a further £500.
