HISTORIC gates and piers are set to be reinstalled at Verdin Park’s main entrance following refurbishment.

The gates and piers were previously removed for health and safety reasons following damage from vehicles over a number of years.

Northwich Town Council had wanted to refurbish the gates and reinstall them on new piers, with the original pillars relocated to the park entrance near Victoria Infirmary.

But following a request from Historic England to have both the original gates and piers to be refurbished and reinstalled in their original place, work is now underway.

The gates have already been totally refurbished ready for installation, and clerk Chris Shaw says they are now ‘looking amazing’.

He told Monday’s Northwich Town Council meeting that the piers would soon follow.

Mr Shaw said: “The piers have now been picked up from the storage yard and taken to the stonemasons for repair.

"They will be reinstalled with the gates in around six weeks.”
