RESIDENTS are being warned against getting lifts in a car with someone from another household as rates of infection in Cheshire West 'remain steady'.

The council's latest figures show 18 confirmed Covid-19 cases in the borough from August 3 to 8, following the 23 new cases from July 27 to August 2.

Coronavirus is more likely to spread in enclosed places, and as more people are now getting out and about, Cheshire West and Chester Council is warning against people from other households sharing transport.

Cllr Louise Gittins, CWAC leader, said: "The number of cases remains steady in our borough, but the virus has not gone away.

Northwich Guardian:

"With cases increasing in some areas of the north west and while we await the development of a vaccine, we must continue to be conscious of our actions during our daily life to stop the virus spreading.

"We advise people against sharing a vehicle with those outside their household or support bubble."

Residents are instead encouraged to walk or cycle where possible.

If you need to share a car with people from another household, CWAC advises to:

  • share the transport with the same people each time
  • keep to small groups of people at any one time
  • open windows for ventilation
  • travel side by side or behind other people, rather than facing them
  • face away from each other
  • consider seating arrangements to increase distance between people in the vehicle
  • clean your car, especially areas people touch such as door handles, between journeys
  • ask the driver and passengers to wear a face covering.

Residents are also reminded to maintain regular hand washing for 20 seconds, cover their faces where required and to get tested if they feel ill by calling 119 or visiting nhs.uk/coronavirus

Anyone with symptoms should also self-isolate for 10 days, or 14 days if alerted by a contact tracer.
