THE pedestrian subway under the A54 at High Street will be closed for two weeks as a new mural is painted.

Work will begin tomorrow, August 15, on a new painting called 'A Place to Be Proud Of', by Liverpool-based street artist Neil Keating.

The subway will be closed until Friday, August 28, while the painting is done and for general maintenance work to be complete.

The street art has been commissioned by the Winsford Young Producers as part of the group's Festival of Hope – celebrating creativity, heritage and hope.

Cllr Louise Gittins, leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council, said: “The Young Producers behind the Festival of Hope were inspired to include the underpass in their festival plans by their sense of pride for Winsford and a desire to create a place people could be proud of.

"The installation will explore the town’s less discussed heritage, and draws on the things that make the Producers hopeful about their town’s future.

“There will be a short period of inconvenience whilst the underpass is closed but I’m sure everyone will agree that it will be worth it as the area is transformed.”
