WINNINGTON Park Bowmen are celebrating success in the Virtual Cheshire Target Archery Championships.

As a result of the efforts of six members, the club has a Cheshire champion to be proud of.

Two more of Park’s archers finished in the top 10 and three achieved personal bests.

The competition is usually held over a whole weekend, bringing archers together from all over Cheshire to compete for coveted trophies and places in the county squad.

To give the archers a chance to compete this year, the county organisers put together a virtual event which saw recurve archers shoot 72 arrows up to a distance of 70 metres on a target face of 122 centimetres – with barebow and junior archers shooting 50m.

Their scores had to be witnessed and then sent off to be included in the final results.

Leigh Hadfield is county champion after scoring 600 against a field of 28 experienced archers.

The Winnington Park Bowmen will all be in action during August as they compete in their annual club championships at their Moss Farm outdoor range.

The current coronavirus pandemic may mean that the archers can’t travel to events, but this has not stopped them from aiming high and achieving top scores on home soil.
