DRIVERS heading towards Manchester along the A556 can expect additional delays to their journey next week.

From Monday, August 10 the northbound carriage will be down to one lane, starting one mile from the junction 19 roundabout.

Two-way traffic lights will be in place just before the Tabley-bound layby and Highways England is advising drivers to allow at least an extra five minutes on their journey.

The traffic lights are scheduled be in place from Monday, August 10 to Sunday August 17 and are part of the ongoing M6 junction 19 improvement scheme which started in March.

Highways England explained: “Most of our work so far has been taking place in the centre of the roundabout while we’ve been installing the foundations of the new bridge. We are now moving onto the next phase of work to build the bridge wall bases, which will support the bridge when it is lifted into place.”
