The 56-year-old, who is best remembered for her vocals on Primal Scream's popular Screamadelica album, graced Northwich with her voice back in 2018.
She played two nights at The Salthouse as part of The Charlatans' homecoming North by Northwich festival which treated music fans to intimate performances from popular musical talents.
Denise treated fans in the small bar to an acoustic set each night and spectators marvelled at her soulful voice.
As part of the Guardian's extensive coverage of the event, performers were asked to descirbe themselves in no more than 10 words. Denise's response was 'Acoustic. From the heart. Very Powerful.'
Following the announcement of her death, fans who were lucky enough to see her in Northwich in May 2018 paid tribute to a wonderful talent.
Sad news that Denise Johnson has passed away today. Always loved her voice and what she brought to all the records she was on - some of which are my favourite records

This was sadly the only time I got to see Denise Johnson perform, but what a performance it was.
