AN unadopted road in Wharton which has been plagued with potholes is being lined up for improvements following pressure from residents and businesses.
Smokehall Lane, off Bostock Road, has long suffered with poor road surface – while drivers have also complained about the width of the road.
But thanks to a cash boost from a new housing development in the area, Cheshire West and Chester Council has bought land to widen Smokehall Lane and carry out improvements.
Cllr Nathan Pardoe, Labour CWAC member for Wharton, said: "The council has carried out temporary repairs in the past, but the best outcome for all is to adopt the road and this is something which council officers have been working to deliver.
"Thanks to the Wharton Green housing development the land to widen the road has been purchased.
"I know from my meeting with [highways cabinet member] Cllr Karen Shore that she understands how important this is to local residents.
"I'm hopeful that the 2020-21 highways budget book will deliver the funds and plans needed to adopt, widen and surface Smokehall Lane."

CWAC's planning committee gave the green light for 138 new homes on land between Smokehall Lane and Deakins Road back in February.
That permission included the requirement for developer Engie to pay £14,188 towards highways improvements.
