A 29-YEAR-OLD man was taken to hospital with "serious leg injuries" after falling from the city walls, it has been confirmed this morning (July 23).

The incident happened on Frodsham Street, Chester, shortly after 7pm yesterday and resulted in a large-scale emergency service response.

An air ambulance was seen landing on Chester Cathedral's Dean's Field.

Cheshire Police say the incident is not being treated as suspicious.

Firefighters used line rescue equipment to help paramedics lift the man into a land ambulance before he was rushed to Aintree Hospital in Liverpool.

In a statement, Cheshire Police said: "At 7.50pm officers were called to reports of an incident on Frodsham Street, Chester.

The Leader:

An air ambulance attended but the man was taken to hospital by land ambulance.

"Officers attended the scene and found that a 29-year-old man had fallen from the city walls.

"The incident is not believed to be suspicious and the man was taken to hospital with serious injuries."

North West Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of a fall on Frodsham Street last night at 7.09pm.

"We sent a rapid response vehicle, two land ambulances and an air ambulance to scene and treated a patient with serious leg injuries.

"We took the patient to Aintree Hospital via land ambulance."

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "At around 7.45pm firefighters were notified of a man having fallen down an embankment in the Frodsham Street area of Chester.

"On arrival the casualty was being assessed by paramedics.

"Firefighters used line rescue equipment to help paramedics get the casualty into an ambulance.

"They were in attendance for less than half-an-hour. An air ambulance also attended."
