AMBITIOUS plans to establish Northwich as the ‘events capital’ of west Cheshire will continue once it is safe to do so.

Witton councillor Sam Naylor, whose ward encompasses the town centre, says that he has received a number of queries about staging exciting events in the town.

Northwich is already building a reputation for hosting successful events, with the regular fixture that is the Now Northwich festival and the Music Making a Difference fundraiser for market traders following the fire earlier this year, which successfully ‘painted the town with music’.

A number of highly anticipated events were also booked in for the summer, including Krazy Races down Castle Hill and the River Festival, which both had to be postponed due to coronavirus.

But councillors are keen to see that these events do go ahead in the future when it is safe.

“We want to get Northwich back up and running as soon as we can and get back to what the town is becoming renown for, and that is events,” Cllr Naylor said.

“We want Northwich to be the events capital in west Cheshire.

“It was unfortunate that Krazy Races and pride event we had planned had to be put to one side, but we want to get these things back up and running as soon as we can.

Northwich Krazy Races had to be postponed due to coronavirus

“People can see opportunities in Northwich and the secret to our success is the relationship between Cheshire West and Chester Council, Northwich Town Council and Northwich BID, and a collective determination to make Northwich a success.”

This sentiment was echoed by Cllr Richard Beacham, CWAC cabinet member for housing, regeneration and growth, who says he admires the way that organisations work together to get things done in the town.

He added: “I’ve always been really impressed by how Northwich BID, Northwich Town Council and Cheshire West and Chester Council work together with other groups to organise things.

“This is something which is not true in other towns in the borough, and certainly elsewhere.

“Northwich is way ahead in terms of having a committed group of people who work together and get things done.

“The town is carving itself out as a place where there is always something going on, and you do need things like that to get town centres moving.”
