THE WITTON COLUMN - By Paul Harper

IT is usually around this time of the year that we would be looking forward to some pre-season friendlies.

At the time of writing, it is still unsure as to when the new campaign might get underway, but the good news is that the Witton Albion squad have been back in training.

It has been a long four months without any action, so to see the lads back working was really pleasing and hopefully is a sign that the action may not be far around the corner.

The first session, last weekend, was the opening opportunity for summer additions Josh Gregory and Scott Bakkor to link up with their new team mates and I’m sure they will benefit from training more and more from these sessions in terms of building on-field relationships.

They picked a lovely day to get back to it as it absolutely tipped it down! Pre-season is normally associated with sunshine and heat, but perhaps this is how things are after the crazy and unprecedented circumstances of the past few months.

There has been a lot of hard work going on away from the pitch, with the stadium getting a thorough clean.

We don’t know when any football might be played at Wincham Park, but our hardy bunch of groundstaff and volunteers have been working hard to make sure that the stadium will be ready for when it is.

In recent weeks, the pitch has been reseeded, the stands and terraces have been jet washed and the dressing rooms and offices beneath the main stand have been disinfected.

There is still plenty more work to be done, however, and should anyone be interested in helping, there will be a cleaning day taking place at Wincham Park on Saturday, 25th July, from 10:00am. Please contact Jo Heffey via email to jo.heffey@wittonalbion.com or drop the club a message on social media. Your help, as ever, would be massively appreciated.

Hopefully, we will have a bit more information about when we might be able to get back to action over the next few days, and the excitement for the new campaign can ramp up even more.
