THE role of a firefighters often involves tackling fierce fires and rescuing casualties from trapped vehicles.

But they are often the first port of call when animals become stuck and are in need of help.

When an unfortunate cat found its way to the roof of a house in Alderley Edge, the crew from Poynton Fire Station were called out to help.

Knutsford Guardian:

Firefighters became aware of the cat, named Luna, becoming stuck on the chimney of a property on Wilmslow Road shortly after 11.30am yesterday, Tuesday.

The crew used ladders to get close to the cat and rescued her using a pole and net supplied by the RSPCA, which was also in attendance.

The cat was brought safely back to the ground and firefighters were in attendance for around 45 minutes.

In a tweet afterwards, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “There’s a joke that we spend a lot of time rescuing cats from trees.

“Not true – this cat was stuck on a chimney.”
