AN animal-loving three-year-old has wowed his family by walking more than 42 miles in June to support Chester Zoo.

Hudson Lancaster, from Winnington, was gutted to hear that the zoo could be forced to close due to financial pressures before the Government agreed to allow it to reopen.

Desperate to support Chester Zoo, the youngster decided to walk each day to in June to raise funds to feed the animals.

And after beating his initial aim of walking a marathon – 26.2 miles – he ended up trekking with his parents for more than 42 miles.

Northwich Guardian:

Proud dad Leon Lancaster told the Guardian: "We are members of Chester Zoo, we go about twice a month, so when we heard that it might be closing we were absolutely devastated.

"Hudson said he wanted to walk for them. His mum Jen asked if he'd like people to sponsor him, and he agreed.

"He decided that every walk would be for a particular animal. The original goal was £100 but we have raised £655 so far."

Leon says he never expected little Hudson to be able to reach the first target of 26.2 miles.

But after a slow start, the youngster was leading the way and encouraging his parents to go the extra mile for his favourite zoo.

"He has done an amazing job," said Leon.

"Normally a three-year-old would stop and potter about, but by the end of it he was just getting on with it.

"By the last walk we ended up doing 2.4 miles in 45 minutes. I was amazed by it."

Chester Zoo's recent appeal has captured hearts and minds in Northwich, with residents pulling together to support the much loved attraction and conservation charity down the road.
