A GROUP of sewers from across the north west who came together to help create scrubs during the coronavirus pandemic have been given the final #BiggestThankyou from Whiston Hospital.

Whiston and St Helens Hospital charity decided to thank seven people or groups across St Helens and Prescot who have helped them during their time of need.

They chose to salute one a day on the week running up to the 72nd anniversary on the NHS on Sunday, July 5.

Today, the day of the 72nd anniversary of the NHS, their praise went to Threadication, a group of sewing enthusiasts including a 93-year-old, which worked hard throughout the pandemic to sew scrubs and other essential items for NHS teams.

Because of the coronavirus outbreak and heightened infection control practices, NHS staff needed to change out of their scrubs more frequently to prevent the spread of the virus.

This led to higher turnover of key uniform items and a shortage of readily available scrubs to doctors and nurses.

The floral tribute was handed over to Trish Taylor.
