THE headteacher of Victoria Road Primary School is set to raise more than £1,400 for Chester Zoo after donning her walking shoes.

Cathy Lord completed a walking challenge over the weekend which saw her travel more than 30 miles from Sandbach to the popular tourist attraction.

She completed the challenge with four of her friends, maintaining a two metre distance along the way as she believes that Chester Zoo is an important tool for educating people on why animals must be protected from extinction and the wider implications of damaging our environment.

And when all donations have been collected, Cathy’s fundraising total is expected to exceed £1,400.

“While Chester Zoo has now reopened, it still needs funds to continue to function,” she said.

“Our school motto is ‘nurture, inspire and accomplish’, and this is at the foundation of all of the work of Victoria Road Primary School.

“As part of the Aspire Educational Trust of schools, we are one big family with a wonderful team of staff, lovely families and children, whom we are so proud of.

“Taking on new challenges is also shown to improve mental health – another area which the school positively promotes.

Northwich Guardian:

“We are looking forward to having all of our families back as soon as it is safe to do so.

“In the meantime, I hope that all enjoy hearing about the wider work of the school and feel inspired to complete their own challenges.”

This is just one example of the charity work that Victoria Road Primary School has been involved in throughout the lockdown.

The school has worked with Aldi in Holmes Chapel to provide free food to families on a daily basis.

Asda in Northwich has also now started to work with the school by donating food and resources.

These items are then delivered to homes by the school’s dedicated family support worker Ang Clayton and teaching assistant Kate Edgeley.

A school spokesman added: “We would like to thank Aldi for the food donations that it has given us during the lockdown as they have supported our community in a huge way.

“It has been appreciated by many, including us as a school.”
