WETHERSPOON has confirmed when its Northwich pub will reopen.

This follows Prime Minister Boris Johnson confirming yesterday, Tuesday, that pubs, restaurants, cinemas, hotels and hairdressers can reopen from July 4 providing they are 'Covid-secure'.

Wetherspoon has announced that it is to reopen 750 of its pubs in England on July 4.

And the pub chain has confirmed that The Penny Black, on Witton Street, will be among those that are reopening.

Wetherspoon chairman Tim Martin has welcomed the Government's plan to allow pubs to reopen and said: “We are extremely pleased that pubs are reopening on July 4 after a long hiatus.

"We are going to discuss the precise government proposals with our pub managers and staff before we comment further on the details.”

Last month, The Penny Black manager Evie Emmerson explained to the Guardian what measures would be put in place to protect both customers and staff.

Two new full-time roles well be created to regularly clean surfaces, door handles, handrails and other touch points, with screens also being erected in front of tills.

There will be an average of ten hand sanitiser dispensers located around the pub.

Dedicated staff will monitor the pub at all times to maintain social distancing standards and there will be a member of staff on the door at peak times.

Customers will be asked to use the Wetherspoon order and pay app wherever possible and staff will hand over all drinks holding the base of the glass as an extra safety measure.
