THE much-loved founder and owner of Blue Grass Animal Hotel in Little Leigh has sadly passed away.

Eileen Day opened the kennels in 1957 and was involved with its running and operations for more than 60 years.

During this time, it became the longest established kennels throughout Cheshire.

Eileen sadly passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, June 14 at the age of 94 while surrounded by her family.

In a statement, Blue Grass Animal Hotel said: “Eileen’s motto was always to look after other people’s pets as if they were her own.

“Blue Grass was her pride and joy and she was a larger than life character who will be missed by all those who knew her and held her in great affection.

“She will be sadly missed by her daughter Donna, son in law Jimmy, grandson Jason and wife Jo, great grandchildren Ellie, Katie and Daniel, all the team at Bluegrass past and present, relatives, neighbours and many friends.

“Rest in peace Eileen.”

Because of coronavirus restrictions, a private burial will take place this Friday, June 26, leaving Blue Grass Cottage at 10.45am and arriving at Little Leigh Cemetery at 11am.

At a later date, Eileen’s family are planning to have a celebration of Eileen’s life, to which everyone is welcome to attend.

The date of this will be announced in due course.

Eileen’s family are also asking that no flowers be bought, but donations are welcomed if desired to an animal charity of your choice.
