REVISED plans for a new Lidl store in Bromborough are the subject of an online public consultation.

The proposals, if approved, will see the replacement of derelict industrial units on land to the corner of New Chester Road and Caldbeck Road with a "modern, spacious supermarket" that could create up to 40 new jobs in the area.

The new Lidl store, would be 10% smaller than previously proposed, with a 1,256sqm sales area, and include an in-store bakery, customer toilets and 120 car parking spaces including disabled and parent & child spaces.

Details of the proposed development can be found on www.lidl-bromborough.co.uk.

This is the third planning application for the site and follows a refusal of the most recent application by planning officers under delegated powers last year, on the grounds of change of use for the site, from employment land to retail.

Lidl subsequently submitted an appeal against the council's most recent refusal, which will be determined by a planning inspector shortly.

A spokesperson for Lidl said previous planning applications for a new store on this site had been "extremely well received by the local community", resulting in several hundred letters of support sent to the council.

Stuart Jardine, Lidl's regional head of property, said: "The response we've had from the local community previously has been extremely encouraging and I would like to thank everyone who has supported us thus far.

"I would encourage people to view the proposals on the development website and have their say on these latest plans.

"We strongly believe that the local community will benefit from a new Lidl store in Bromborough, through access to high quality affordable food and job creation.

"The site has been derelict for some years now and a new Lidl will not only regenerate this brownfield site, it will provide more choice for shoppers in Bromborough and create up to 40 new jobs for people living locally.

"We're grateful for the continued local support and remain committed to working with the Council so that we can bring the new store to the local community.

"We look forward to receiving feedback from the local community before we submit a new planning application to Wirral Council."
