Knutsford singer's show is a hit with her neighbours

Kara-Ami, 27, normally performs on cruise ships, but is not working at the moment because of the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

She sang for her neighbours in Southfields five weeks ago, and was such a hit that she now performs every Thursday, from 6.30pm, for up to 20 people who come along.

“The first time I chose the songs for myself, and didn’t really know how it would go,” she said.

“I just thought it would be nice, as everyone was feeling a bit down, with not being able to go to work and staying in lockdown.

“It was originally just for my street, and all the neighbours came out.

“My mum did it on Facebook Live, and it went really well and everybody loved it.

“It was supposed to be a one-off thing, but then I started getting lots of requests for songs, and was being asked to do it again because everyone enjoyed it so much.

“So I started taking song requests, and I sing all sorts – this week I sang a song by Adele, as well as Somewhere Over the Rainbow, which has been a popular request, and Dream A Little Dream Of Me.

“Now that people have known about it every week they take their daily walk so they come along our road for 6.30pm.

“I sing between 10 and 15 songs, and perform for about 45 minutes, and it’s really lovely when people applaud.

“I don’t know when I’m going to be able to perform again professionally, so it’s really nice to be able to be doing what I love, making people happy and bringing a little bit of joy to them every week as well.

“It’s just been to lift people’s spirits, and people say they really look forward to it, and it’s the highlight of their week.”

Kara-Ami has been performing on cruise ships for about five years, and is a former Knutsford High School student.
