THERE are plenty of us missing our rugby league fix at the moment.
And so we’ve turned the clock back to 1996 to that glorious summer when Saints lifted the Challenge Cup for the first time in two decades.
On a memorable day at a sun-drenched Wembley, they rallied to defeat Bradford 40-32 in a classic final that was dubbed the Ultimate Comeback.
Skipper Bobbie Goulding (pictured above, centre), whose ‘bombs’ inspired the famous fightback, roared with delight as he arrived back on an open-top bus in the town centre with his victorious team mates and the famous trophy.
Supporters packed into Victoria Square to welcome home the triumphant team
And the fans were out in force, despite the rain, to welcome home the squad at Victoria Square.
The team and mascot (Goulding’s son, Bobbie) celebrated their victory in front of the supporters
The victorious squad included the likes of Steve Prescott, Keiron Cunningham and Chris Joynt.
Do you have any memories of that day or even the incredible season that saw Saints clinch a double?
