A 50-year-old man from Ellesmere Port has sadly died following a road traffic incident on the M56 this morning.

Police are appealing for information from the public following the incident, which took place at around 5.30am at junctions 12 and 14 near Hapsford.

On arrival it was found that a HGV tanker, travelling in the direction of Runcorn, had been involved in a collision with a pedestrian.

The pedestrian, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

The driver of the HGV was uninjured and liaised with officers at the scene.

Enquiries are ongoing and officers are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or anyone with any dashcam footage which may aid their investigation.
