A PEDESTRIAN has died following a serious collision on the M56 this morning, Monday.

At around 5.30am, police were called to reports of a collision on the motorway between junctions 12 and 14.

On arrival, officers found that a HGV tanker travelling in the direction of Runcorn had been involved in a collision with a pedestrian.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the HGV was uninjured and liaised with officers at the scene.

As a result of the collision, the eastbound carriageway of the M56 was closed while investigation work took place.

However, North West Motorway Police has since confirmed that the motorway has fully reopened.

Traffic is said to be moving very slow and motorists are advised to avoid the area.
