A HUSBAND who was given just two years to live back in 2014 is looking forward to a golden wedding anniversary this weekend.

Geoff Buckley met Christine Sharman at Rudheath Youth Club when they were both teenagers.

The pair married at 2pm on Saturday, May 9, 1970 at St Helen Witton Church – followed by a reception at The Lion and Railway pub.

Geoff was diagnosed with a rare form of leukaemia in 2014 and on diagnosis was only given two years to live, but due to new treatment that became available shortly after diagnosis, Geoff is now doing well, with treatment seven days every month.

Daughter Diane told the Guardian: “We cannot thank the staff at the Macmillan treatment centre at Leighton Hospital enough.

“Family time is very special to mum and dad – they love days at the park or Chester Zoo, but at the minute they can only seem family on Facetime due to the current situation.

“We cannot wait until everything is back to normal.”

Christine and Geoff have have two children – Michael and Diane – and two grandchildren.

The couple lived in Bond Street, Winnington, until 1972 when they moved to the Crocus Park Estate, in Barnton, where they remain.

Geoff booked a surprise cruise for the special occasion which would have left on May 13, but it was cancelled due to coronavirus.

“Mum and dad love family holidays abroad,” said Diane.

“They go twice a year and their favourite destinations are Tenerife, Lanzarote and Benalmádena.”

Family and close friends will gather for a meal at the Moorings, in Anderton, once lockdown has ended.

When they first married, Geoff worked at Tillmans in Altrincham and Christine at Brunner House in Winnington.

Geoff moved to Associated Octel as a maintenance fitter, while Christine left Brunner House when Michael arrived and became housewife until Michael and Diane were at junior school.

She then worked at Barnton Play School before moving to Boots in Northwich, where she worked on the photography counter for 16 years until 2003, when she left to help Diane once Harry arrived.
