A SHOPWORKER made redundant in the pandemic was given another reason to celebrate on her 18th birthday as she begun training as a care assistant.

Ellie Finch, from Northwich, worked at a high street business until its closure in March as a result of the pandemic.

Now, she is training up with Premier Care, where she will provide residential care to people across Middlewich, Knutsford and south Cheshire.

"I was very upset as I had lost my job with my current employer due to Covid-19," Ellie said.

"I have outgoings to pay for just like everyone else and was unsure how I was going to be able to pay these."

Ellie, who celebrated her 18th birthday last Wednesday, turned to the Northwich Work Zone for help after being made redundant.

After contacting the Work Zone, Ellie had a few options and interviews lined up before beginning training with Premier Care last week.

"The support I received from both members of the Work Zone team was absolutely exceptional from start to finish," said Ellie.

"I was made to feel very reassured and completely at ease throughout the whole process and reassured that I would be able to get another job.

"Both staff members were very informative on new roles appearing that I could apply for and now I am going into a new Care Assistant role thanks to their help.

“I couldn’t be more grateful and would highly recommend them to anyone in the same position I was in. I definitely give the service 10 out of 10."

The Work Zone, at Northwich railway station, is currently helping people who come out of work as a result of the pandemic.

It can help match residents with available jobs, including temporary work in sectors that are expanding, such as social care, warehousing and supermarkets.
