WE might be in lockdown – but we can still celebrate from our homes.

Friday, May 8, is the 75th anniversary of VE Day – when the Second World War came to an end in Europe.

And while the street parties we thought we would have will have to wait thanks to the pandemic, people across Northwich, Winsford, Middlewich, Knutsford and Wilmslow will be celebrating in their homes and gardens.

Cllr Mark Williams, the Lord Mayor of Chester, is leading calls for the county to mark the occasion from the safety of their homes.

"I was saddened by the news that the civic events to commemorate VE Day were having to be cancelled but I was still keen to mark this special anniversary," he said.

"I would like to encourage residents to decorate their homes or window in red, white and blue, join in the national toast and watch the civic service."

Residents are being encouraged to decorate their homes in red, white and blue to mark VE Day and have their own stay at home party and picnic with people from their own household.

Communities across the county have already been busy spreading the word on social media – and we want to see your efforts.
