THE WITTON COLUMN - By Paul Harper

SINCE the current lockdown began and there has been no live football to report on, I’ve been going through the Witton Albion archives.

As the Media Officer at the club, one of my roles is to run our YouTube channel and I’ve been going through some archive footage and looking back at games gone by.

It’s been brilliant and getting interaction from supporters on social media has really evoked some great emotion and memories of some fantastic times for the club.

The early 90s was a true purple patch for the club. Winning promotion into the Conference and then battling it out for honours with the likes of Wycombe Wanderers, Kidderminster Harriers and Colchester United, reaching the FA Trophy Final at Wembley Stadium in 1992.

Great times and great memories for the club, and ones I’ll continue to share on YouTube and social media over the coming days and weeks.

The club has a limited back catalogue of footage, so if anyone has any videos or DVDs of games gone by that they wouldn’t mind sharing with us, your help would be greatly appreciated. Get in touch via social media or the club website.

While it’s important to look back and celebrate some of the achievements of the club from the past, it’s even more important to look ahead to the future and planning is already underway for the new season, whenever it is safe to get football back underway.

We’re looking at a host of ideas to help move the club forward in a few different ways and over the next few weeks, hopefully I’ll be able to share some of those with you as projects get underway.

The hard work has certainly not stopped at the club because of the current COVID-19 situation and we’re continuing to work as hard as possible to ensure that we’re in a strong position as soon as we come out of lockdown and move into the new season.

Again, if any supporters have any ideas of their own which you feel may be useful to us, please get in touch. No idea is a bad idea and we welcome your feedback.

I must finally continue to thank the supporters who are continuing to make generous donations to help support the club through this time. It is massively appreciated by everyone at Witton Albion.

Stay safe everyone.
