A CARNIVAL Queen brought joy to a Davenham care home as a resident enjoyed a surprise 90th birthday treat to break the lockdown monotony.

Laurence Carlon, who lived in London Road before moving to Fountain Court, was treated to a surprise sing-a-long for his 90th birthday today, April 22.

Natasha Hamilton – one of Laurence's 14 grandchildren – wanted to do something special to mark Laurence's landmark birthday.

After posting on Facebook for ideas, she was contacted by Lisa Edwards – the mum of Northwich Carnival Queen Kiera Mctasney – who suggested her talented daughter could sing from a safe distance to mark the occasion.

Northwich Guardian:

"Ninety is a huge milestone so I wanted to do something special for him," said Natasha.

"A few residents were in their windows and a few came out to watch from a distance. It was lovely, they were all overjoyed.

"I haven't seen my grandad smile like that in such a long time, it was amazing."

Natasha was able to find balloons in Davenham while a friend baked a cake for Laurence to enjoy.

It was a special moment for Laurence and Natasha, along with her mum Julie and her children Harry and Lacey, who also came along for the moment so the family could spend a rare moment together in the lockdown.

Northwich Guardian:

"To see my grandad on his 90th birthday and not give him a hug was heartbreaking," Natasha added.

"He lives alone, he hardly sees anyone and because of the situation we are in at the moment he just has carers going in. There is a sitting room at Fountain Court but they have had to close it.

"We can't see him, we can talk to him through the window but he's not very steady on his feet, and we can't really call him as he can't hear very well.

Northwich Guardian:

"But he was tapping his feet and hands, singing along and clapping. It was just so lovely."
